Information Science and Technology (ARL)
Abstract
IST supports the Defense Information System Agency on the Defense Enterprise Integration Program, conducting research in logistics, computer-based intelligent tutoring, and human performance evaluation. On-going projects include DARPA funded Sensor Information Technology Programs in Data Fusion, and Surveillance Sensor Networks MURI, ARO funded Complex Systems Failures MURI, and ONR funded Critical Infrastructure Protection Program on Mobile Ubiquitous Security Environment. New research initiatives have been established in chemical nanosensing technology, bio-informatics, autonomous air operations, and augmented reality smart spaces.
IST is supported with expertise focused on informatics, intelligent control, distributed systems, and communication systems engineering. The Division has unique expertise in real-time control and optimization of high performance, information integrated, distributed dynamic systems.
Application to Homeland Security
Specific applications include mobile robotic networks, sensor based surveillance, geo-informatic decision automation, health monitoring, cybersecurity, and damage mitigation of complex machinery like aircraft engines, power plants, electric grid networks, and distributed command and control of complex missions.
